Tighter controls on Yemen’s borders vital to curb Houthi arms smuggling, analyst says

Political analyst Hazza Al-Beil said that tightening controls on Yemen’s land and sea border crossings is a sovereign right of the state and a necessary step to combat the smuggling of weapons and dual-use materials to Houthi militias.

Speaking in an interview with Al-Ekhbariya TV, he added that the militias exploit all Yemeni coastlines and some land crossings to bring in weapons that cause the deaths of Yemenis and fuel their terrorist operations.

Last Thursday, a high-level security and military meeting chaired by Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Vice President Salem Al-Khanbashi stressed the need for the state to tighten control over land, sea, and air crossings in Hadramout province, close illegal entry points, and step up anti-smuggling measures.
