British maritime agency reports two explosions in Strait of Hormuz

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency announced early Thursday that a tanker captain reported hearing two explosions while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman yesterday, confirming that both the ship and its crew are safe.

In a notice, the agency said the incident occurred about nine nautical miles southeast of Khasab, Oman, adding that there were no reports of environmental damage or injuries as a result of the incident.

The agency stated that the report is still under investigation, and did not provide further details regarding the cause or nature of the explosions.
