Yemeni defense adviser: Counterattacks on Houthis yield major gains

Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Kumaim, adviser to the Yemeni Minister of Defense, said that Yemeni forces are conducting counterattacks against the Houthis and making significant advances.

In media statements, he added that the Yemeni Armed Forces have moved beyond the repositioning phase and begun launching counteroffensives after regaining readiness and reorganizing their ranks. He stressed that the rapid restoration of combat readiness is a major achievement for the forces, especially after losses sustained on the western coast.

Al-Kumaim noted that the Yemeni Armed Forces continue their preparations and operations to reclaim areas seized by the Houthis. He explained that shifting to counterattacks reflects the forces’ regained field initiative and paves the way for further operations to liberate new territories.

He pointed out that Yemeni forces have overcome many of the gaps that emerged during last week’s battles, moving from defense and reorganization to counteroffensive operations, which enabled them to retake several key positions and high ground.

The Yemeni defense adviser confirmed that military operations have resulted in the recapture of several mountains and strategic hills, particularly those overlooking the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. He noted that controlling these heights strengthens the Yemeni forces’ ability to manage operations in the area.
