Iraqi prime minister: fighting corruption, building defense capabilities

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi said that true stability is not achieved through war, but through shared interests, stressing that the security of nations and the sustainability of peace are a collective responsibility.

Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly, Al-Zaidi called for joint management of water resources in accordance with international law, affirming that Iraq extends its hand to all based on respect for sovereignty and good neighborly relations.

Al-Zaidi noted that the government is waging a major battle against corruption and working to protect public funds, while also seeking to transition Iraq into a productive and active partner in the region. He added that Iraq has an ambitious program to increase crude oil production and develop its gas fields.

The Iraqi prime minister emphasized that there can be no security or peace in the Middle East without resolving the Palestinian issue, highlighting the importance of addressing crises in a way that achieves regional stability.

He further explained that Iraq is concerned about the impact of disruptions to maritime transport in the region and is working to diversify supply routes to mitigate the consequences of such disruptions.
