Arab League chief: Netanyahu’s rejection of peace plan shows disregard for global will

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of the 15-point roadmap to advance the comprehensive peace plan for Gaza, and his insistence on opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank, demonstrates a clear disregard for international will and the foundations of the peace process, directly undermining prospects for a just and comprehensive settlement.

Fahmy stressed that Israel’s repeated violations of the ceasefire, including attacks targeting civilians and medical facilities in Gaza, constitute a blatant breach of existing commitments and relevant UN resolutions. He welcomed the clear stance expressed by the foreign ministers of eight Arab and Islamic countries in their statement issued on August 6 regarding these violations.

The Arab League chief reiterated the importance of fully and seriously implementing the comprehensive peace plan, and continuing the path set by the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025, during which Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the need to proceed with all stages of the agreement to achieve a just and comprehensive settlement that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state.

Fahmy also warned that Israel’s ongoing attempts to impose new realities on the ground in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, and its expansion of control over Palestinian territories, aim to entrench the occupation and undermine the possibility of a Palestinian state, in clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The Secretary-General called on US President Donald Trump and the international community to assume their responsibilities in ensuring the full implementation of the comprehensive peace plan, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803 of 2025, and to pressure the Israeli government to halt its violations and fulfill its obligations, in order to preserve the chances for a just and lasting settlement.
