Egyptian foreign minister, Trump adviser stress need to safeguard navigation in Strait of Hormuz

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Moussaad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The remarks came during a call between the two officials, during which they discussed the latest developments in the crisis with Iran and underscored the need to uphold freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

They also discussed ongoing efforts and communications aimed at de-escalating the conflict in Sudan. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of building on initiatives to end the conflict, creating conditions for political solutions, and promoting dialogue and negotiation. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the protection of its national institutions.

The call also addressed the situation in Libya and ways to advance the political process and end the country’s divisions. Abdelatty stressed that Egypt’s approach to the Libyan file is based on prioritizing Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as supporting the cohesion of its national institutions. He emphasized the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to support the Libyan political process, helping Libyan parties reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
