Trump accuses Canada of seeking US state benefits without obligations

US President Donald Trump said that Canada wants to enjoy the benefits of being a US state without actually being one.

Trump added that Canada has imposed massive tariffs on American farmers for many years, but said this will not happen again.

His remarks came after a new escalation in the tariff dispute between the United States and Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his country would impose tariffs on certain US imports in response to new 50% tariffs imposed by Trump.

Signs of a renewed tariff crisis emerged after trade talks between the two countries collapsed, but Canada is moving forward with its plan to apply tariffs on US imports starting in September.
