Iranian president says new US sanctions will not achieve goals

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday that the new sanctions announced by the United States would not yield any results, stressing that economic pressure has not affected Iran and that Washington failed to achieve its objectives during the conflict. Pezeshkian's remarks were reported by the ISNA news agency.

Pezeshkian explained that the Iranian government has taken measures that have prevented US pressure from succeeding, adding that the Iranian economy continues to withstand sanctions at this stage.

Last Thursday, the United States vowed to tighten economic sanctions on Iran in a bid to "bring down this regime," nearly six months after the conflict began with the first US and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic on February 28.

Sanctions expanded

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced at a press conference on Monday that the sanctions would be expanded to cover the digital assets, technology, and shipping sectors, which Iran relies on to support its economy, according to her statements.
