Iranian media: Oil tanker hit by sea mine explosion in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian media reported that an oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by a sea mine explosion.

According to Iran's Fars news agency, the tanker that was hit had deviated from the route designated by Iranian authorities, who had previously warned ships that straying from the set path would have consequences.

Iranian state television also reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy intercepted six vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz "without authorization and outside the designated route," after firing warning shots.

Earlier today, state television said Iranian authorities did not allow ships attempting "unauthorized passage" through the Strait of Hormuz to continue on their way.

This escalation comes despite Washington and Tehran signing a memorandum of understanding in June that included a ceasefire and the start of negotiations for a broader agreement to end the war that began following the Israeli and US attack on February 28.
