A Yemeni teacher who survived Houthi militia violence has shared the story of his escape to Djibouti by sea after witnessing atrocities committed by the group.

Speaking in an interview aired on Al Hadath TV, the teacher said, "We were at a school and understood that the arrival of the Houthis meant the onset of terror. They consider themselves 'God's chosen elite and the rest of humanity as servants,' and they threatened us with weapons."

The teacher, identified as Ali, continued, "We fled in a terrifying scene—killings were taking place at street corners and cars were burning. We walked a long distance, numb with fear that the Houthis would catch up with us. They had already reached the place we were heading to and unleashed violence and injuries upon us."

He added, "I reached a point from which I escaped by sea, boarding a boat crowded with Yemenis. We prayed for survival, having no food or water, until we finally arrived in Djibouti."
