Kremlin says too early to comment on reported US-Ukraine airstrike talks

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it is too early to comment on reports that the United States and Ukraine are discussing a possible halt to airstrikes as part of efforts to end the war.

According to Reuters, a Ukrainian source said Ukrainian and US officials have discussed a proposal to halt mutual airstrikes, which could be presented to Russia as part of a renewed push to revive peace talks aimed at ending the conflict sparked by Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

The source, cited by the agency, added that Ukraine had previously presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with ceasefire proposals, but they were rejected. However, some officials believe that continued Ukrainian drone and missile attacks, which are putting pressure on the Russian economy, could prompt Putin to show more flexibility.

Meanwhile, Russia's Interfax news agency quoted the Kremlin spokesman as saying, "We do not know how credible these reports are or their source. They are just media reports, nothing more, so it is too early to comment at this stage."

Russian officials have expressed hope that the two US envoys will visit Moscow when their schedules allow, and that dialogue with Washington will continue.

It is worth noting that US efforts to broker a peace deal have largely stalled in recent months, while diplomatic attention has also shifted to the conflict with Iran.
