Yemeni government condemns Houthi drone and missile attack on Mocha port

The Yemeni government has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on Mocha port in Taiz province, using drones and missiles. The government described the strike as a blatant assault on a vital civilian and economic facility, once again exposing the criminal nature of the militia and its disregard for the lives, interests, and national resources of Yemenis.

In a statement, the Yemeni Cabinet said the attack was part of a systematic Houthi campaign targeting ports, vital facilities, infrastructure, and economic sectors. The statement noted that while the militia continues to claim a so-called “siege” on the Yemeni people, it is in fact the Houthis themselves who attack Yemen’s ports, strike its vital installations, damage its infrastructure, disrupt commercial and economic activity, and cut off lifelines for millions. The government stressed that the suffering of the Yemeni people is being used by the militia as a tool for propaganda and political blackmail.

The government emphasized that targeting Mocha port and other vital facilities amounts to a war on the state, society, and the national economy. It said these actions are part of an Iran-backed project to keep Yemen in a state of chaos and destruction, and to use its territory, ports, and sea lanes to threaten regional and international security.

The Yemeni government warned that the attack on Mocha port marks a dangerous escalation, demonstrating that the Houthi threat is no longer confined within Yemen but now poses a direct risk to regional and international security, as well as to freedom of navigation and trade in the Red Sea.

The government held the Houthi militia fully responsible for the attack and its consequences, and also held Iran accountable for continuing to supply the group with weapons, expertise, and military technology that enable such assaults on civilian facilities, ports, and international shipping.

The government affirmed its commitment to fulfilling its national and constitutional responsibilities to protect vital facilities, ports, and national resources. It said it will not allow any terrorist group or external party to use Yemeni territory, institutions, or resources to harm the Yemeni people or threaten regional security and international interests. The government added it will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard economic and service facilities and secure trade and supply routes, in coordination with regional and international partners.

The Yemeni government reiterated that Yemen will not serve as a permanent platform for Iran’s project to threaten the region and the world. It called on the international community to move beyond statements of condemnation and concern, and to take concrete and deterrent action against the Houthi militia and its backers, including cutting off sources of funding and arms, and holding them accountable for attacks on civilian facilities, ports, and threats to international shipping.

The government stressed that the path to peace in Yemen does not lie in rewarding terrorism or tolerating armed militias, but in addressing the root causes of escalation, enabling legitimate state institutions to assert control over all national territory, and restoring the state’s monopoly on arms. This, it said, is essential to ensuring Yemen’s security and stability, protecting its interests and those of the region and international community, and safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
