US seeks to eliminate risks to shipping in Strait of Hormuz: analyst

Political analyst Tarek Al-Shami said that "all possibilities remain open regarding the reasons behind the ongoing talks between Oman and Iran about the Strait of Hormuz."

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Shami added that "former US President Donald Trump was known for making decisions to launch attacks and following through, so it is impossible to predict whether these negotiations will achieve any breakthrough; such talks do not necessarily prevent the possibility of future strikes."

He continued that "the US president needs a clear agreement and confidence-building measures to ensure Iran adopts a new approach to managing the strait, halts any attacks, and provides guarantees that such incidents will not be repeated."

Al-Shami also noted that "the outcome depends on the nature of the discussions between Iran and Oman, while the US seeks to eliminate any potential threats to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and ensure that all three shipping lanes remain open to maritime traffic."
