IMO reports oil spill from tanker off Oman coast

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has reported an oil spill from a tanker that drifted northeast of Oman's Qibliyah Island, approximately 22 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.

The IMO stated that it has activated an emergency response plan to address the spill from the stranded vessel, aiming to minimize environmental impacts on the marine and coastal areas.

The organization added that strong winds in the area are hampering rescue teams' access to the tanker, causing delays in efforts to control and contain the spill.

The IMO also warned that some of the leaked oil is expected to reach Oman's mainland in the coming period, emphasizing the need to accelerate response efforts to reduce potential damage.
