Trump seeks comprehensive deal with Iran, says analyst

Iran affairs expert Mohamed Abbas Naji has said that US President Donald Trump is betting on reaching a comprehensive agreement with Iran.

Speaking in an interview with Al Hadath, Naji added that Trump is seeking a deal he believes would surpass that of former President Barack Obama, but Iran continues to focus on the finer details.

He noted that the 2015 nuclear agreement took more than two years to negotiate, while Iran is now pushing for a partial deal, which has become more important for Tehran due to its lack of trust in Trump.

Naji also said Iran has yet to prove it can commit to strict international obligations. He pointed out that the Iranian parliament is currently considering a vote of confidence in Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, amid claims he exceeded his authority as granted by Iran's leadership, which limits his freedom to negotiate.
