IRGC: Reopening Strait of Hormuz not linked to Iran-Oman talks

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has tied the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the United States accepting Tehran’s conditions, stressing that the decision is unrelated to ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman.

IRGC spokesperson Sardar Mohabi said on Saturday that reopening the strategic waterway is subject to “mechanisms and conditions set by Tehran,” emphasizing it is not connected to the current talks with Oman.

Speaking to Tasnim News Agency in Bandar Abbas, Mohabi explained that Iran views the strait as more than just an economic passage, stating: “For us, the Strait of Hormuz is not merely an economic waterway, but a component of our geographic and strategic strength.”

The IRGC spokesperson added that reopening the strait is conditional on “the United States fully accepting Iran’s terms and ceasing interference in regional negotiations.”

Mohabi concluded: “When America accepts Iran’s terms, the Strait of Hormuz will certainly be reopened.”
