Iraqi PM adviser: State control of arms aims to ensure legal framework

Qassem Al-Araji, adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, affirmed that restricting weapons to state control is not intended to exclude or undermine the sacrifices of Iraqis.

Al-Araji added that Iraqis who helped defeat terrorism are a source of pride, and that placing weapons under state authority does not aim to marginalize or disregard their sacrifices. Instead, it seeks to create a regulatory framework that protects fighters and their families and guarantees their legal and social rights, under the law and the command of the armed forces, according to the Iraqi News Agency.

He continued that crafting media messages requires great care to convey reassurance and national partnership, not threats, stressing that the security of citizens and the stability of fighters and their families are top priorities for the government.
