US secretary of state hails Hamas disarmament approval as milestone

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Hamas’s approval of disarmament as a “milestone,” adding that the United States has achieved significant progress in the Middle East. He also called the agreement between Lebanon and Israel “unprecedented.”

Speaking at a press conference, Rubio said the International Criminal Court is “an organization lacking legitimacy,” noting that the US had urged it to implement reforms, but these efforts were rejected.

He added that reaching an agreement between Lebanon and Israel marks an unprecedented development, but emphasized that much work remains to sustain and build on this peace, describing the goal as “achievable.”

In the same context, the US secretary of defense said the Houthis did not engage in the conflict because they were deterred by American strength.
