Iran links full reopening of Strait of Hormuz to US commitments, announces Oman shipping agreement

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent on the United States fulfilling its obligations under a memorandum of understanding. He affirmed Tehran’s readiness to reopen the vital waterway if the blockade and sanctions are lifted, frozen Iranian funds are released, and Israel is compelled to halt its attacks on Lebanon.

At the same time, Pezeshkian announced that Iran and Oman have reached an agreement on designating a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the Supreme Leader has been briefed on the details of this development.

The Iranian president reiterated that the fulfillment of US commitments outlined in the memorandum is a prerequisite for fully reopening the strait.

Pezeshkian also emphasized the importance of fostering good relations with neighboring countries and working together to ensure regional security, stressing that security in the region should be managed and maintained by the countries of the region themselves through mutual understanding and coordination.
