British maritime agency: ship hit by unknown projectile in Strait of Hormuz

The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) announced on Tuesday that it had received a report of a new incident in the Strait of Hormuz, where a vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the waterway.

UKMTO said a "reliable source" had reported the ship was hit by a projectile, but the nature and origin of the object were not specified.

The agency noted that the report was received late and did not immediately disclose the timing of the incident or the vessel’s exact location within the Strait of Hormuz. It also stated there were no reports of environmental damage as a result of the incident.

UKMTO did not reveal the name of the vessel, its flag, or the nature of its cargo, and there was no immediate information regarding the status of its crew.

On the previous day, UKMTO had reported receiving information about a vessel being hit by a projectile while passing through the strait, noting at the time that the crew’s condition, damage assessment, and environmental impact were unknown.
