Algeria wildfires death toll rises to 73 in Jijel province

The death toll from wildfires sweeping through areas of Jijel province in eastern Algeria has risen to 73, according to a preliminary tally, with widespread losses reported to property and vegetation.

Algerian authorities said firefighting operations continued in several areas, adding that efforts are underway to assess the full extent of the damage.

The fires have devastated large swathes of vegetation, damaging homes, property, and agricultural crops in what is considered one of the region's most tragic wildfire incidents.
