Iran and Oman continue talks to resume Strait of Hormuz shipping

Bloomberg has reported that negotiations between Iran and Oman are ongoing in an effort to reach an agreement to resume maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The agency added that one proposal under consideration is to reopen the central shipping lane in the strait.

The agreement to resume navigation in Hormuz is expected to pave the way for renewed negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict.

It is noted that differing interpretations between Iran and the United States over the fifth clause of a memorandum of understanding—which had signaled the start of serious talks on regulating passage through the strait—have led to a new dispute.

While Iran maintains that regulating and controlling navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is its right, the United States rejects this demand and insists on free passage for all ships without fees or restrictions.
