Egypt, Qatar foreign ministers discuss efforts to ease regional tensions

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call today with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss the latest regional developments.

According to a statement from Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the call addressed the outcomes of ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation, and reviewed regional and international initiatives aimed at containing tensions in light of renewed military operations.

The two ministers emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to reduce escalation and return to negotiations, in order to help contain tensions and bolster regional security and stability. They also stressed the need to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions and uphold international law in resolving crises peacefully.

Separately, the Egyptian foreign minister discussed the situation in Gaza with Nikolay Mladenov, the senior representative for the Gaza Strip, as well as developments in negotiations related to the implementation of the US president's peace plan for Gaza.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of fulfilling all requirements of the plan's first phase, including ensuring full and safe access for humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip, and moving towards early recovery and reconstruction.
