Yemeni prime minister: Houthis advancing Iran’s agenda to destabilize region

Yemeni Prime Minister Shaya Zindani said the continued targeting of commercial vessels and threats to the security of the Red Sea and international shipping lanes by the Houthi militia once again demonstrate that they are advancing Iran’s agenda to destabilize the region and undermine global maritime security.

Writing on his account on the X platform, Zindani added that these actions affect not only Yemenis, but also have broader repercussions for the region and the world by threatening freedom of navigation, supply chains, and international trade, as well as undermining UN, regional, and international efforts to achieve peace and stability.

The prime minister stressed that protecting freedom of navigation and the security of maritime passages is a collective responsibility, and called on the international community to take a firmer and more deterrent stance against Houthi terrorist behavior, to cut off their sources of support, and to prevent continued threats to regional and international interests.

Zindani also emphasized that the government will continue to work closely with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by Saudi Arabia, and with international partners to confront these threats, safeguard maritime security, support efforts to restore security and stability, and reestablish state institutions and Yemen’s sovereignty.
