US strategy rules out negotiations over Strait of Hormuz, expert says

US affairs expert Aqil Abbas has stated that the United States' strategy is clear: there will be no negotiations regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Abbas added that while former President Donald Trump generally prefers peaceful, negotiated solutions, mediation channels remain open. Currently, the only active mediation track is the Pakistani one, but any negotiation depends on specific conditions.

He went on to say that both the United States and Iran are calling for negotiations, but each on its own terms. Trump, in practice, has adopted a new strategy that offers no concessions to Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, even if he agrees to resume talks and lift the maritime blockade. However, he insists that negotiations focus directly on the nuclear issue, which was the cause of the conflict, and at the same time, Trump is prepared to return to military operations if necessary.

Abbas added that Trump signals his readiness to resume military campaigns even during the US midterm elections, aiming to send a message to Iran that he should not be perceived as weak during the election period.
