Iran rejects US claims over global fuel prices, calls accusations a cover for policy failures

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei rejected US accusations that Iran is responsible for rising global fuel prices, describing the claims as a "transparent American attempt to cover up its own failures" in managing energy markets and to evade responsibility for crises caused by its unilateral policies.

Writing on his official account on X, Baghaei said, "US officials blame Iran for higher fuel prices, believing that people have become so quick to anger that they have forgotten who started the military aggression and how those actions triggered a crisis that disrupted commercial shipping and closed the Strait of Hormuz."

He added: "Of course, this kind of distortion is nothing new; in 1939, Hitler used the same approach to justify the attack on Poland, presenting military aggression against that country as a 'defensive measure.'"

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman continued, "When those who start an illegal war blame the consequences of the conflict they ignited on the victim, is this a sign of strategic genius or just another clear example of the 'march of folly'?"

Meanwhile, US Senator J.D. Vance held Iran responsible for rising fuel prices in the United States, citing Iranian attacks on commercial vessels. He said: "Why are gasoline prices so high? Because Iranians continue to launch missiles and drones at commercial ships."
