WSJ: China supplied Iran with satellite images of US base in Jordan before attack

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Iran obtained high-resolution satellite images of the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan from Chinese sources prior to the attack that killed three US soldiers last July.

Citing US officials, the newspaper said Iran's targeting capabilities improved over the summer, noting that the technology and imagery acquired from Chinese entities represent an area where Washington could pressure Beijing through sanctions and economic measures.

US officials emphasized that some Iranian attacks on ships were nearly "catastrophic," and that Tehran's ability to target moving vessels has improved.

The report added that senior US officials have sought to avoid public confrontations with Beijing, and that the US president has told his team that maintaining good relations with China, and especially with President Xi Jinping, is a top priority for him.
