Arab Parliament chief condemns Israeli plans to displace Gazans

Mohammed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, on Wednesday in Cairo condemned statements by ministers in the Israeli government regarding the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. He said these remarks reveal a systematic plan to uproot Palestinians from their land, erase their national cause, and forcibly impose new demographic and geographic realities.

In a press statement, Al-Yamahi described the forced displacement of Palestinians as a war crime, a crime against humanity, and an act of ethnic cleansing. He stressed the Arab Parliament's categorical rejection of any plans to empty Gaza of its residents or forcibly expel them from their land.

He warned of the dangers of these plans coinciding with settlement expansion, annexation, and the seizure of Palestinian land, describing this as a serious escalation against Palestinian rights.

Al-Yamahi called on the UN Security Council and the international community to act swiftly and decisively to thwart any attempts to displace Palestinians or alter the demographic makeup of the occupied Palestinian territories. He urged the adoption of deterrent measures against the occupation and those responsible for such statements and plans.

Parliamentary action and international calls

The Arab Parliament chief added that the body will continue its regional and international efforts to expose displacement and ethnic cleansing schemes, and to rally global parliamentary support for the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Yamahi affirmed that peace cannot be achieved through displacement and uprooting, but only by ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with international resolutions.
