Trump likely to launch airstrikes on Iran after US midterms, source says

A US source has said that President Donald Trump is inclined to carry out airstrikes on Iran after the upcoming midterm elections in November, along with tightening the blockade, according to Al Arabiya.

Tehran recently proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks in exchange for the United States lifting its blockade on Iranian ports, which has severely damaged the country's economy.

Earlier today, Trump officially announced that he would not accept Iran's new proposal, stating at the White House: "Iran wants a deal and I want a deal, but the proposal is unacceptable."

The US president said Iran had put itself in a difficult position by closing the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the US "has imposed the largest blockade in military history" on the country.

According to Al Arabiya, Trump stressed that Iranian authorities are suffering significant losses as they are not receiving funds, especially since their main source of income comes from the Strait of Hormuz, and he considered that the pressure policy is proving effective.
