Iran-backed Houthi militants directly shelled Al-Safwa Hospital in central Taiz on Tuesday, injuring a civilian and causing material damage to several hospital departments and patient room windows.

Local sources told the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) that the attack followed the shelling of several residential neighborhoods in the city, which resulted in civilian casualties. The hospital was targeted as medics gathered to evacuate and treat the wounded, shattering window glass in patient rooms and sparking panic among patients and medical staff.

The targeting of the hospital constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees protection for medical facilities and personnel during armed conflict. Such attacks endanger civilian lives, deprive them of essential healthcare, and worsen the suffering of the population.

According to the Yemeni News Agency, 17 civilians—including six elderly people, five women, and six children—were injured and seven homes were damaged in Taiz city as a result of Houthi shelling over the past 24 hours. Five people were killed and others wounded in rural areas of the governorate.

The Taiz Human Rights Office stated that Houthi shelling targeted residential neighborhoods in the city, resulting in civilian injuries and damage to homes.
