US Central Command: Strikes on Iran follow IRGC attempts to target commercial ships in Hormuz

US Central Command has confirmed that its recent strikes were carried out after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently attempted to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

It added that US forces have begun targeting IRGC positions inside Iran. Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and various areas near the Strait of Hormuz, according to Al-Sharq.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need for full respect for the rights and freedom of international navigation in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
