US embassy in Beirut: Lebanon-Israel talks in Rome ongoing

The US embassy in Beirut has confirmed that talks between Lebanon and Israel are continuing in the Italian capital, Rome, expressing hope for positive outcomes for both sides.

The embassy said significant technical work remains necessary to ensure the safety of civilians in southern Lebanon.

It noted a fundamental difference between drafting an agreement and implementing it, warning that rushing implementation could put civilians at risk.

The embassy stressed the importance of allowing sufficient time to efficiently launch upcoming pilot areas, and emphasized that Lebanon and Israel must agree on a clear mechanism before moving to the next phase.
