Syrian security forces dismantle Daesh cell in Deir Ezzor, arrest leader

Syrian internal security forces announced the execution of a security operation, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate, that led to the dismantling of an active Daesh terrorist cell in Deir Ezzor province and the arrest of its leader and several members, based on precise intelligence information.

In a statement, the internal security forces said the unit raided locations where cell members were hiding. The suspects opened fire and refused to surrender. The cell leader, identified as Abdel Fattah, attempted to throw a hand grenade but was quickly subdued and arrested by the security team.

The statement added that the operation also resulted in the neutralization of Atta Allah, the cell's assassination chief in the area, before he could detonate a suicide belt, and the arrest of Haidar Jadaan Al-Jassem.

Security forces seized weapons, ammunition, and explosive belts from the cell members during the operation.

The statement noted that a child was injured during the raid, as he was inside the house at the time. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

According to the statement, initial investigations revealed the cell's involvement in several terrorist crimes in the Baghouz and Al-Shaafa areas of rural Al-Bukamal, including the assassination of a diplomatic security officer on Eid Al-Adha, planting an explosive device in a shop that killed a security officer, and targeting an internal security vehicle with a bomb.

The internal security forces confirmed that investigations are ongoing with the detainees in preparation for their referral to the competent judiciary, and that efforts continue to pursue anyone found to have supported, aided, or harbored members of the terrorist cell.
