Saudi Masam project clears 1,367 landmines across Yemen in a week

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s Masam project cleared 1,367 landmines from different areas of Yemen during the fourth week of July 2026. The haul included 73 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, 1,275 unexploded ordnances, and 6 improvised explosive devices.

In Aden governorate, the Masam team removed 10 anti-personnel mines, 8 anti-tank mines, 603 unexploded ordnances, and 6 improvised explosive devices. In Qa'atabah district, Al-Dhale governorate, two unexploded ordnances were cleared. In Hays district, Al-Hodeidah governorate, one unexploded ordnance was removed, while in Al-Khawkhah district, one anti-tank mine and one unexploded ordnance were cleared. In Mukalla district, Hadramout governorate, the team cleared 3 anti-personnel mines, 5 anti-tank mines, and 525 unexploded ordnances.

In Midi district, Hajjah governorate, the team removed 45 anti-tank mines and 68 unexploded ordnances. In Al-Mudarabah district, Lahij governorate, 24 unexploded ordnances were cleared. In Al-Wadi district, Marib governorate, 13 anti-tank mines and one unexploded ordnance were removed. In Taiz governorate, the team cleared 3 unexploded ordnances in Mokha district, one anti-tank mine and 18 unexploded ordnances in Dhubab district, 7 unexploded ordnances in Al-Mudhaffar district, and 22 unexploded ordnances in Salah district.

This brings the total number of mines cleared since the beginning of July to 5,653. Since the launch of the Masam project, a total of 576,778 mines have been removed. These mines had been randomly planted across Yemeni territory, endangering the lives of children, women, and the elderly, and spreading fear among civilians.

Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continues its efforts to clear landmines in Yemen as part of a project aimed at protecting civilians and enabling Yemenis to live safer, more dignified lives.
