Iran accuses IAEA of paving way for war through political bias

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei said that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has turned the agency into part of a chain linking technical reports to political justification and ultimately to war.

He added on his account on X that the agency’s reports have become a tool for crafting narratives of threat and creating a political and legal basis against Iran. As a result, the line between technical oversight and enabling conditions for military attack has become less clear.

Baqaei stressed that the credibility of the agency as an independent and neutral institution is being damaged, and that it has played a role in “politically paving the way for an illegal war.” He noted that as long as aggressive actions and unlawful U.S. interventions continue, the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman also announced plans for a meeting in Oman next Monday, bringing together Iraq and Gulf littoral states. He affirmed that “Iran is firmly committed to strengthening trust and cooperation among regional countries, with the aim of establishing peace and stability away from divisive and destructive interventions by parties from outside the region.”

Baqaei further stated that responsibility for military attacks and war crimes should not fall solely on those who issue orders or carry out attacks, but also on those who help create the political or legal grounds or provide documents used to justify such actions.
