Seven killed, 30 wounded in Houthi attack on Yemen’s Mocha port

The Yemeni armed forces have announced that seven people were killed and 30 others wounded in an attack by Houthi militants on the city of Mocha and its port, using missiles and drones to target both civilian and military sites as well as vital infrastructure.

In a press statement, Colonel Majed Al-Nazili, official spokesperson for the armed forces, said the attack, which took place on Sunday, targeted civilian facilities, infrastructure, employee housing and their families, power stations, and other civilian locations within the city, in addition to military sites.

He explained that so far, the attack has resulted in the deaths of four armed forces personnel and three civilians, while 30 others were injured, most of whom are civilians. He noted that the majority of the wounded have been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.

He added that air defense units stationed in Mocha managed to intercept and shoot down 11 Houthi drones involved in the attack.

The spokesperson described the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law and its customary rules, stressing that targeting civilians and vital facilities reflects, in his words, the approach taken by Houthi militants in their military operations.

Al-Nazili affirmed that the attack on military units stationed in Mocha constitutes an assault on the entire armed forces, emphasizing that the forces will continue their duties on all fronts and pursue their mission until their objectives are achieved.

He stated that the armed forces possess the will, capability, and initiative to silence and neutralize sources of threat and to prevent further hostile actions as required by the operational situation, while maintaining the safety and property of civilians.

He also confirmed that the armed forces will continue operations to achieve security and stability in Yemen, end the threat posed by Houthi militants and their Iranian-backed project, and restore state institutions.
