UAE condemns Iranian attack on ADNOC tankers in Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has condemned an Iranian attack on two tankers operated by ADNOC as they transited the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of Thursday, August 13, confirming that no injuries were reported and that authorities have the situation under control.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the assault constitutes a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirms the right to freedom of navigation and rejects targeting commercial vessels or disrupting international maritime routes.

The ministry stressed that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for pressure or economic extortion amounts to acts of piracy by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, posing a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.

The UAE called for an immediate halt to these aggressive attacks by Iran, urging full compliance with the cessation of all hostile actions and the unconditional reopening of the strait to safeguard regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.

For its part, ADNOC confirmed that two of its vessels were attacked with no injuries reported, emphasizing the importance of protecting seafarers, ensuring freedom of navigation and maritime security, and urging the public to rely solely on official sources for information.
