IMO reports 68 maritime incidents in Strait of Hormuz over six months

The International Maritime Organization has reported 68 maritime incidents in the Gulf and adjacent waters over the past six months, as ongoing unrest continues to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas exports.

According to the organization's data, incidents occurred at a rate of nearly one every 2.6 days, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 seafarers and port workers, with 35 others injured. One person remains missing.

Oil tankers accounted for about 50% of the affected vessels, while container ships made up 20%, and bulk carriers represented 15% of the recorded incidents.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations classified 47 of the incidents as direct attacks, while the data showed fluctuations in the frequency of incidents during different phases of the conflict.
