GCC chief condemns Iranian attacks on two UAE tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has condemned what he described as repeated and flagrant Iranian attacks targeting two tankers owned by the UAE's ADNOC as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz. He called the incidents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world's most vital waterways, in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817.

Albudaiwi also rejected any Iranian attempts to turn this critical international passage into a tool for pressure and intimidation. He urged the international community to assume its responsibilities, take a firm stance to halt these repeated attacks, and ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with international law, the Law of the Sea, and related international resolutions.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the GCC's full and unwavering solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, its support for the UAE, and backing for all measures the country takes to protect its security, sovereignty, assets, and interests.
