Syria has reaffirmed the depth of its longstanding and historic fraternal relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, describing current ties as being at their strongest in terms of mutual understanding and shared concern for the interests of both peoples.

In an official statement, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned and rejected recent Jordanian airstrikes in Daraa province, denouncing what it called an unacceptable violation of Syrian airspace without prior coordination. The ministry said the attacks resulted in several deaths and injuries.

Syria also reiterated its strong condemnation of the recent "treacherous and criminal" attack on St. George's Church, calling it a blatant assault on religious and humanitarian values and a malicious attempt to undermine Jordan's social fabric. The statement paid tribute to the victims, offering condolences to their families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The ministry stressed that such actions are completely unacceptable and cannot be justified under any pretext, describing them as a clear breach of good neighborly principles and Syrian sovereignty, and contrary to established frameworks for joint cooperation and coordination.

According to the statement, Syria is convinced that "suspicious parties" are working hard to disrupt the distinguished fraternal relations between the two countries, seeking to sow discord, create tension, and ignite crises between the two peoples.

Emphasizing the wisdom of both leaderships and their commitment to preserving these fraternal ties, Syria said direct coordination is underway with Jordan to form an urgent joint field and security committee. The committee aims to address and prevent further violations, secure the shared border, and ensure full security and field coordination to thwart any attempts to undermine the security of both countries and the safety of their citizens.

Meanwhile, Jordan today reiterated its pride in the fraternal relationship with Syria and its commitment to developing ties in ways that serve the interests of both countries and ensure coordination in facing shared challenges, including the threat posed by Daesh.

Jordanian Minister of Government Communication and official spokesperson Mohammed Momani expressed "regret for the civilian casualties," stating that Jordan "refrained from targeting locations where information indicated the presence of civilians." He confirmed that Jordanian authorities are following up on the matter with their Syrian counterparts.

He added that Jordan will work with Syria to "form a joint committee to follow up on the aftermath of the operation against Daesh and enhance coordination in combating the terrorist group, ensuring the security of both countries and peoples and the protection of civilians."

Momani stressed that coordination between Jordan and Syria in "combating terrorism and the smuggling of weapons and drugs is institutional and ongoing, based on a firm conviction in strengthening the security of both countries. Their joint efforts reflect a commitment to security and stability."

He added that the security of Jordan and Syria is intertwined, and that fighting terrorism—such as the recent attack in Hamoud village, Karak—is a shared goal. Both countries, he said, will continue to work on strengthening their deep-rooted fraternal relations.
