Egypt launches probe into Damietta drone attack, Sisi urges international cooperation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Thursday that relevant authorities are conducting investigations to determine the details and circumstances of the incident in which two ships were attacked by a drone at Damietta port. He highlighted the seriousness of the current escalation in the region and stressed the need for Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to work together to halt this escalation.

El-Sisi made these remarks during a phone call with Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, stated that the Spanish prime minister began the call by condemning the Damietta port incident and affirmed Spain's solidarity with Egypt during this time, both at the government and public levels.

The spokesperson added that the call also addressed regional developments, with President El-Sisi outlining Egypt's efforts to restore stability in the region.

The Spanish prime minister expressed deep appreciation for these efforts, and both sides emphasized the importance of peaceful conflict resolution to maintain peace and security in the Middle East.

In this context, the Spanish prime minister stressed the need for the United Nations to play its role in ending the ongoing war and highlighted the importance of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.

During the call, President El-Sisi also expressed Egypt's full solidarity with Spain regarding the recent wildfires in several Spanish regions, offering condolences for the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He affirmed Egypt's readiness to provide all possible support to help Spain face these challenges, expressing confidence in Spain's ability to overcome them and wishing the country continued prosperity. In addition, El-Sisi congratulated the Spanish prime minister on Spain's national football team winning the World Cup.

The spokesperson noted that the Spanish prime minister expressed his deep appreciation for President El-Sisi's initiative to call and convey Egypt's support during this sensitive period for Spain. He also emphasized the strong historical ties between Egypt and Spain at both official and popular levels, and expressed his desire to continue strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in various political and economic fields.
