Iran expects US response today on Hormuz reopening proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country expects a response from the United States today regarding its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Al Arabiya, Araghchi stated that Qatari mediators "presented ideas, which we discussed with them. They are set to raise the issue again with the American side, after which the final US response will be conveyed to us."

The senior Iranian diplomat, who is in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, added that "the Qataris hope this will happen by today, Tuesday."

His comments came after Araghchi revealed last night that he had met and spoken again with the Qatari mediators, reiterating that certain conditions must be met for the reopening of Hormuz.

Separately, US President Donald Trump denied earlier yesterday that he had offered Iran sanctions relief or the release of frozen funds in exchange for nuclear concessions from Tehran.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, "That is not true. I offered them nothing," following a report by Axios earlier that the US president was prepared to ease sanctions in return for nuclear concessions.
