US President Donald Trump has said the United States may need to target Pekaks Mountain, a site linked to Iran’s nuclear program, as part of efforts to ensure Tehran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.

In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said he would not use nuclear weapons in the conflict with Iran, which began in February with US-Israeli strikes. He stressed that Washington wants to make sure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, adding, “If they get it, they will use it.”

Trump noted that Iran’s nuclear facilities are “buried under mountains weighing millions of tons,” and said, “We are currently considering Pekaks Mountain. We may have to, we will try to target this site and destroy it quickly.”

Pekaks Mountain is a fortified underground facility located near one of Tehran’s main nuclear sites.

The US president reiterated there is no need to use a nuclear bomb in Iran, stating, “I will not use nuclear weapons. We don’t need to,” and confirmed he is not considering deploying US ground troops to Iran.

Trump did not say whether he had authorized the use of the GBU-43/B, known as the “Mother of All Bombs,” against Iranian energy infrastructure or nuclear sites, but noted that it is not a nuclear weapon.
