Iraqi political analyst: US withdrawal coordinated with Baghdad

Political analyst Najm Al-Qassab stated that the recent withdrawal from Iraq was the result of an agreement between Washington and Baghdad.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Qassab said these withdrawals have embarrassed Iraqi factions that were counting on time and the end of the US-Iran conflict to postpone or delay handing over their weapons.

He added that these factions had previously justified not surrendering their arms as long as Iraqi sovereignty was compromised by the United States, as well as the continued presence of Turkish forces in Sinjar and the lack of unification of Peshmerga weapons.

Al-Qassab continued that these factions are betting on time until the end of the US-Iran conflict, with Iran seeking to use these groups as leverage against Washington.

The political analyst concluded that while the Iraqi government will vote on a law to hand over weapons, it will be difficult to fully implement due to the sheer volume of arms, unless Iran is involved in the political process. He noted that disarmament is not an easy issue.
