Jordan appoints Maj. Gen. Majdi Al-Harasais as new joint chiefs chairman

Jordan’s King Abdullah II has appointed Maj. Gen. Majdi Mohammed Hamad Al-Harasais as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, effective September 2, 2026.

The king also promoted Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed Al-Hnaity, the current chairman, to the rank of lieutenant general and referred him to retirement, also effective September 2, 2026, according to the Jordan News Agency.

King Abdullah II, who serves as supreme commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces, sent a message to Maj. Gen. Al-Harasais, entrusting him with the responsibility of serving the country and fulfilling this duty with dedication and diligence.

He added that the armed forces are held in high esteem by all Jordanians, with its officers, non-commissioned officers, and personnel setting examples of courage, integrity, and loyalty as they safeguard Jordan’s land and airspace and confront any threats to the nation’s resources, security, and the safety of its citizens.
