Syria begins construction of new border crossing with Turkey in northeast

Syria’s General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs announced today the start of construction and preparation work for a new border crossing with Turkey in Hasakah province, in the country’s northeast.

In a statement, the authority said it has begun technical preparations to pave cargo yards and service roads at the Qamishli–Nusaybin border crossing.

The authority noted that the project will help stimulate trade, transport, and transit activity, ease pressure on existing crossings, and reduce travel distances and crossing times for both travelers and trucks between the two countries.

The new crossing will be the seventh between Syria and Turkey, alongside the crossings at Kessab, Bab Al-Hawa, Bab Al-Salam, Al-Ra’i, Jarablus, and Tal Abyad.
