Key Takeaways
AINabil Al-Atoum, director of the Iranian Studies Program, said Iran is deliberately stalling and procrastinating in its negotiations with the United States.
Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Al-Atoum added that Iran is insisting on the implementation of seven conditions it has set, which include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, unfreezing assets, lifting sanctions, and ending the maritime and air blockade.
He continued that the United States is shifting from a policy of containment to strengthening deterrence and preparing for long-range strikes and various scenarios. He noted that the military buildup does not necessarily mean a final decision for war, but rather aims to provide options such as limited strikes, protecting US forces, pressuring Tehran to make concessions, and preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Al-Atoum also said the US is making logistical preparations by sending medical teams and refueling aircraft to its forces in the region, sending a message to both allies and adversaries about Washington's capability to defend itself.
