Syrian internal security forces have announced the arrest of Suhail Nadim Abbas, a former regime general, after confirming his involvement in several military operations and abuses against Syrians in multiple provinces.

According to an official statement, investigations revealed that Abbas participated in the battles of Tulul al-Safa in Sweida province in 2018, as well as military operations in Daraa, Homs, and Idlib. He is also accused of issuing orders to open fire and use artillery and rocket launchers during several of these operations.

On Tuesday, Syrian internal security forces and the General Intelligence Directorate announced the arrest of a senior military leader of Daesh in a security operation carried out in the countryside of Manbij, Aleppo province, noting that the operation was conducted in cooperation with international partners.

Security officials said the detainee, Hamza Abdullah Mohammed, known as "Abu Jihad al-Muhajir," is considered one of Daesh’s top military leaders. He previously served as the group’s overall military commander for the so-called Wilayat al-Sham, as well as deputy military commander, known as "al-Harithi," and earlier was responsible for the so-called Wilayat Idlib.

Authorities added that the operation is part of ongoing security efforts to pursue Daesh cells and leaders, dismantle its networks, and prevent the group from regrouping or resuming activities that threaten the safety and stability of Syria.
