Iraq set to resume flights with Iran via Najaf airport

Iraq’s ambassador to Iran said on Monday that Najaf International Airport will resume receiving Iranian flights within 24 hours, paving the way for the restoration of air travel between the two countries after a recent suspension.

Najaf International Airport had announced on September 25, 2026, that all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Iran would be halted from 2:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, until further notice, based on official directives from the relevant authorities.

In a statement, the airport administration said: "Please be advised that, in accordance with official directives from the relevant authorities, it has been decided to suspend all incoming and outgoing flights to and from the Islamic Republic of Iran starting at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, until further notice."

The statement added: "Please take the necessary measures and inform airlines and operational parties concerned, and refrain from taking any operational steps related to the affected flights during the suspension period."

It continued: "You will be officially notified of any updates or further instructions regarding the resumption of flights," according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
