British maritime agency: Cargo ship hit by projectile in Strait of Hormuz

A British maritime agency has received a report from a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz stating it was struck by a projectile.

The agency added that the projectile hit the vessel's hull in the Strait of Hormuz, but no casualties have been reported so far.

This incident follows renewed tensions between Iran and the United States, after President Donald Trump announced he wants to declare the Strait of Hormuz American land.

Later, a White House official told The Wall Street Journal, on condition of anonymity, that the US president was joking and had not discussed asserting sovereignty over the strait with his advisers.

Admiral Ali Azmaei, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and that the reality should be seen on the ground, not in statements or press releases from US officials.
